Rex Whistler, born in 1905, was talented British illustrator, designer and painter. Unfortunately, his life was interrupted by the Second World War and the artist died in Normandy on 18 July 1944.

His most amusing, disturbing and “grotesque” work, which he called “Reversible Faces,” was a series of upside-down and right-side-up portraits which were published the year of his death.

This particular piece called, "Scotsman & Englishman", inspired us to create this pair of charming bottlings; each with the exact same label, same casks, just applied in two different directions.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Warm, burnished gold with slow, oily legs that cling to the glass.

Nose: Soft old leather and warm beeswax up front, with a wee hint of fresh green apple and a creamy maltiness sitting underneath.

Palate: Creamy and full!!! Properly malty and mouth-coating, with waxy honeycomb, a whisper of leather, and crisp Granny Smith apple keeping it fresh.

Finish: Warming and lingering, the malt and beeswax carrying on sweetly with that green-apple crunch right to the last.

How to enjoy it

Neat, first. Pour a measure and give it a minute — a good Scotch says most of what it has to say before you add anything.

Then a drop of water. Still, room-temperature water opens up the nose and softens the spirit. Add it slowly; you can't take it back out.

A good glass helps. Something tulip-shaped draws the aromas towards you — a tumbler looks the part but lets them drift off.

Storing it. Upright, out of direct sun, cap tight. It won't age in the bottle the way wine does, but it's not frozen in time either — a fresh blend can take a little while to marry, and a half-finished bottle will drift a touch over the months. Nothing to fuss over.

Dispatched within 48 hours. Each bottle is blended and labelled to order, so occasionally it takes a little longer — we'll always get it moving as fast as we can. Someone of legal drinking age must be able to receive it.

Returns: we can't accept returns unless there's a fault with your order. If anything arrives damaged or wrong, email info@whiskyblender.com straight away and we'll put it right.
