A whisky gift, not socks

Somewhere in the world there is a drawer full of birthday candles nobody lit, socks nobody wore, and mugs that say "World's Okayest Uncle" gathering dust next to three other mugs that say roughly the same thing. You don't have to add to it. You could give them a whisky with their name on it instead, or their age, or the exact number of years they've been claiming to be 29.

A dram with their name on it (literally)

In the Lab, you build a blend from scratch: tap to add a wee bit, press and hold for more, until it's exactly the whisky you'd want if you liked whisky and also liked being roasted on a label. Name it after them, their age, or an in-joke that only three people will ever understand. Nobody else is getting this bottle. That's rather the point of a birthday.

Prefer to skip the decisions entirely? Perfect Drams gives you a ready-made character (bold, sweet, or smoky) so you can jump straight to the fun part: what you write on the label.

For the big, scary round numbers

18, 21, 30, 40, 50, 60. Somewhere in there, "over the hill" jokes become mandatory by law. A personalised bottle in a 500ml round, a 500ml flat, or the black round for the birthdays people pretend not to be having, marks the occasion properly. Copper foil label, jute gift bag, a card with the exact blend recipe. It looks like you tried considerably harder than you did.

Something that isn't a scented candle

Not every birthday needs the full ceremony. Sometimes it's a colleague, a distant cousin, or someone you've just remembered it's the birthday of this morning. The 200ml flat is the answer: still personalised, still a proper gift, but sized for "nice gesture" rather than "life event." Nobody has ever regretted receiving this. Several people have regretted receiving a candle.

When they insist they don't want anything

Everyone knows someone who says "honestly, don't get me anything" and means the opposite. A gift voucher calls their bluff politely: they get to build their own blend whenever they're ready, and you get to say you absolutely did get them something.

Throwing an actual party

Big birthday, proper do, the whole thing? Custom miniatures make good party favours: a set of personalised wee bottles that beat a bowl of Haribo by some distance. Doing something bigger, like matching bottles for the whole table? Get in touch via Collaborate and we'll sort it as one order.

Sizes and prices

  • 200ml flat: from £30, the "nice gesture" option
  • 500ml (flat, round, or black round): £60, for the milestone birthdays
  • Custom miniatures: from £115 per set, built for parties
  • Gift voucher: from £30, for the ones who "don't want anything"

Every bottle is blended and labelled to order, so give it a few days rather than ordering it the morning of. Birthdays have a habit of being exactly as scheduled as you'd expect.
