The town of St Andrews (Scots Gaelic: Cill Rìmhinn) was once amongst the most important centres for Christendom in Europe. According to legend, the bones of the apostle Andrew were brought to the early settlement in the 9th century. Today its ancient cathedral lies in ruins, whilst it's university, the third oldest in the English speaking world prosper alongside the Royal and Ancient Golf Club - the home of golf.
