Skye (Scots Gaelic: An t-Eilean Sgitheanach) is the largest of the Inner Hebridean islands, and was, until the 20th century a bastion of the Scottish Gaelic language. It is famous for its rugged landscape, what one poet called "a nightmare of nature".

Entrance to the Cuiraing, Skye by Walter Hugh Paton (1873) has been reproduced on our canvas label with the permission of the National Galleries of Scotland.
